About me

I go by the name Ahmad Mohammed Al-Baker, an 18 years old male. My name derives from being thankful and praise. I was born in the 11th of August, 1993 in my hometown Doha.

I have done many sins in my life, and one of the biggest sin has to be getting addicted to smoking. As a kid, i have never thought of smoking, or even getting close to it .However, i used to hang out with a couple of friends that used to smoke every now and then, so i thought in myself, one cigarette won't hurt me and i got cheered up by them to try out smoking, and they said that it is fun and makes you feel better. So after trying it, I liked the feeling that came into me, though I coughed for 15 minutes, because it was my very first time. My friends said that it is something normal because your body is not used to it yet. And from that day, i used to smoke two to three cigarettes each day, but overtime the amount of cigarettes got bigger and bigger to half a packet a day. My family knew that i was smoking, and they immediately try to stop me from doing so. They were advising me everyday to quit, but i didn't listen to them. They also tried to ground me in home, but that didn't work either. By the time i got 18 years old, my family said, we are not responsible for you anymore, you choose to smoke and you must do something about it before its too late. These words were  very tough to me, because i know that my family loves me and wants the best for me, so i decided to decrease the number of cigarettes from three to four a day and hopefully quit smoking for good.

Since i was a teenager, i always had the love of sport. It was a passion that no one could describe it. My favorite sport is Basketball and i have been playing since i was 15 years old. When I was in High school, All schools around Doha arranged a major basketball tournament. So, our coach told us about this tournament and how important it is to our school. We were practicing and working out every single day, We didn't rest much. In instance, we all wanted to win this tournament in order to prove and get respected by the other schools. The day had finally come, we played against four schools. We won two games and lost in two. My team mates were feeling bad, because they obviously wanted to get the first place. So, i was trying my best to cheer them up, i said we didn't lost nothing, because what matters is that we proved ourselves  to them and that we are a strong and hard working team. We took the third place in the tournament. Our coach was extremely proud of us, he didn't expect us to accomplish that much. That was one of my biggest accomplishments in life.

  1. Ahmed,

Thanks for sharing. I hope that you will quit smoking. Smoking is a major cause of cancer. I am sure that your family does not want you to get sick. My husband smoked for 20 years and he quit.
